Ornette Coleman – Lonely Woman

Remembering Ornette Coleman on his birthday (March 9, 1930 – June 11, 2015). He expanded the boundaries of jazz and his music was filled with unorthodox solos, bending sounds and unique musical structures. Composed in 1959, “Lonely Woman” was the opening track of the groundbreaking The Shape of Jazz to Come which was a pivotal album in the history of jazz. The first recording of the song featured a stellar cast: cornetist Don Cherry (jazz), drummer #BillyHiggins, and bassist Charlie Haden. This version was recorded in 2008.
